Branch Rollout Signage — How to Brief Your Vendor and Actually Get It Right
Branch rollouts look straightforward on paper. You are opening new locations, they need to be branded consistently, you hire a signage company. The reality is that multi-city rollouts are where most branding projects go wrong — not because of the signage itself, but because of how the work gets briefed and managed.
Here is what a proper brief looks like, based on the rollouts we have run across Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Jaipur.
Start with the brand files — not JPEGs, not screenshots. Vector files in AI or EPS format with exact CMYK colour codes. If your brand guidelines document exists, share it. If it does not, make sure your signage vendor creates one from the approved work — so every future location follows the same standard without a fresh round of approvals.
Site information for every location needs to be complete before fabrication begins. This means the physical address, wall dimensions, surface type, photos of the space from multiple angles, and confirmation of any access or installation constraints. Projects that start without this information always hit delays.
Define scope clearly by location type. A headquarters has different requirements than a branch, which is different again from an ATM kiosk or a satellite office. Listing out exactly what signage goes where — fascia board, reception wall, glass branding, directional signs, safety signs — for each location type removes ambiguity and eliminates the back-and-forth during execution.
Timeline planning needs to be realistic. For a batch of locations, allow 10 to 20 days from design sign-off to completed installation. Companies that try to compress this into five days end up with quality compromises or missed opening dates. Build a schedule that phases locations by opening date and gives fabrication time to breathe.
On quality control — visit at least one installation per city yourself, or have someone you trust do it. Signs that look fine in a photo can have alignment issues, edge lifting or colour differences that only become obvious in person. Catching these early, before a dozen more locations go through the same process, saves significant rework.
